Chris Cornell 1964-2017

I never wanted to write these words down for you… Desperately sad and incomprehensible news today, to hear of Chris Cornell’s tragic passing, aged only 52. To his family, bandmates and friends, my deepest condolences.

He was a remarkable and hard-working musician – in Soundgarden, Audioslave and as a solo artist – a deft lyricist with an extraordinary vocal range, and a precise, underrated guitarist. With Soundgarden on tour this year and due to return to the studio to work on a new album, there was so much to look forward to that will now sadly never be. We should try as best we can to take solace in the joy he brought to so many people through his art and his integrity.

I was fortunate to see him play solo at the Royal Albert Hall last year, a gig that will long stay in my memory.

And I’m lost, behind
The words I’ll never find
And I’m left, behind
As the seasons roll on by
