Eddie Vedder is releasing his cover of ‘Imagine’ as a download single – recorded in Meco, Portugal back in the summer, when he described it as ‘the most powerful song ever written’.
You can download the single here.
Proceeds from the sale of the single will go to Heartbeat.FM, an organization that creates opportunities and spaces for young Israeli and Palestinian musicians to work together, hear each other, and amplify their voices to influence the world around them.
‘Imagine’ has doubtless been covered innumerable times, but one of the most interesting versions was recorded by A Perfect Circle, one of Maynard James Keenan’s many projects. Audioeclectica asks which version you prefer. Keenan’s is a darker, more sombre cover than Vedder’s, as you’d expect from him. On the same album that ‘Imagine’ appears, Emotive, there are also fantastic covers of Elvis Costello’s ‘(What’s So Funny ’bout) Peace Love and Understanding’ and Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’. Kennan could make ‘Nellie the Elephant’ sound disturbed.
